About the career of Mr. Jonathan P. Miller
Jonathan P. Miller is the Executive Assistant Commissioner for Air and Marine Operations (AMO), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). AMO’s mission is to safeguard our nation by anticipating and confronting security threats through our aviation and maritime law enforcement expertise, innovative capabilities, and partnerships at the border and beyond. AMO has approximately 1,800 federal agents and mission support personnel, 240 aircraft, and 300 marine vessels operating throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. We conduct our mission in the air and maritime environments at and beyond the border and within the nation’s interior.
EAC Miller has over 28 years of law enforcement and leadership experience. He began his federal career in 1994 with the U.S. Border Patrol in San Diego, California, where he served on the San Diego Sector Special Response Team and as a member of the Border Patrol Tactical Unit. He later transferred to the Miami Sector, where he conducted maritime patrols in South Florida.
In 2007, EAC Miller transferred to AMO’s Miami Air and Marine Branch, where he served as a vessel commander, marine instructor, and helicopter rope suspension training master and standardization instructor. He progressed to serve in numerous leadership positions, to include Supervisory Marine Interdiction Agent; Deputy Director, Marine Operations; and Supervisory Marine Interdiction Agent, Marine Operations, in the Southeast Region. In 2013, EAC Miller was appointed as Deputy Director, Training, Safety and Standards, at AMO Headquarters, with responsibility for overseeing all aviation and marine training, safety, and standardization, and leading initiatives in risk management, safety reporting, basic and advanced training, and workforce development.
In 2019, EAC Miller was appointed to the Senior Executive Service as Executive Director, National Air Security Operations, overseeing all operations requiring the use of AMO’s strategic air assets, including the long-range P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft and MQ-9 Predator B Unmanned Aircraft Systems. In 2021, he became Executive Director, Operations, with responsibility for planning operations, formulating requirements, and overseeing all aviation and maritime missions, both foreign and domestic.
EAC Miller holds a 100-ton U.S. Coast Guard Masters license. He received the U.S. Border Patrol’s Newton-Azrak Award in 2000, and the Commissioner’s Award for Excellence in Mission Support in 2011. He is a graduate of the American University Key Executive Leadership Program and the Department of Homeland Security SES Candidate Development Program.
